I love giving life to someone's idea, and crystal ball earrings are one of the easiest pieces to customize.

This week's special requests were two pairs of crystal ball earrings, meant for two preschoolers. To shorten them a bit they are on Sterling silver posts instead of ear wires, and they are in the girls' favorite colors. So sweet!

My 2.5 year old daughter was fascinated with all the shininess and pronounced them "princess earrings". Seems appropriate.

Today's big Facebook post asks how you would customize a pair, and that's what I'm asking you, too! Would you choose your favorite color, your birthstone color, or something else?

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Bethanyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16882885376221521388noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7961241105822732742.post-29977416953738111902013-01-15T13:58:00.000-05:002013-02-12T13:58:55.257-05:00The year of EmeraldPantone has once again announced their "color of the year" for 2013, and I have to say, I'm in love!

Pantone describes it this way:
"Lively. Radiant. Lush… A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony."

I just call it "the perfect green". Its neither too bright, nor too soft; and its a rich, luscious green that, coincidentally, is also the color of my eyes. See? *bats eyelashes madly and dimples*

Naturally, the first big piece I did for 2013 needed to feature this gorgeous color. I wanted a special piece, ideally a set, and planned on using real gems and Sterling silver wire.

This is the result. A Sterling silver bangle and earring set, featuring large (8mm) green adventurine gems mixed with smaller (4-5mm) creamy freshwater pearls.

For once, this worked out exactly as I imagined it would, and that doesn't happen often! Better still, the response to this on Facebook has been incredible. Every single "like", every comment, matters, and shows me that I'm headed in the right direction. I enjoy hearing what people think of my work. What they like, and what they don't.

The other new piece for 2013 is a pair of silver plated mini spiral earrings with an extra "something"... A single freshwater pearl nestled on the bottom of the spiral. And the credit for the design goes to a lovely customer. It started with a message.

"Could you do this?"

Several back-and-forths later, to clarify the design, and mini spiral pearl earrings were born.

I made two versions, one a straight dangle with the pearl on the end, and one a slightly shorter spiral, then took to Facebook for a popularity contest.

Spiral won this one by a landslide, although I wonder what blogland thinks?

What about you? Do you have a style preference on the new earrings? What do you think of 2013's special emerald color?
The packing, labeling, last minute projects, extra materials, and more packing for open house number two is finished! Thank goodness, because my caffeine buzz has faded to a zzzz.

This time the setup will be confined to one long table, instead of scattered around the room in smaller bunches. The only thing that's missing is a sign for the front of the table, but since I'll be the only artist there I'm not worried about it. Hopefully this will allow people to easily see the entire collection and they won't miss anything.

And once again, if you are in the area I would LOVE to see you! Stop by and say hi today from 1-3pm at 237 Crescent Dr Lower Burrell, PA.

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Bethanyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16882885376221521388noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7961241105822732742.post-7141664701801495092012-11-09T08:19:00.001-05:002012-11-25T05:06:45.707-05:00It's Time To PARTYA couple of weeks ago BooJay Knits went in a new direction - we had an open house party! This first party was an intimate affair, with four guests, who enjoyed homemade cheesecake, brownies, and coffee, while they browsed the collection.

My entire inventory was displayed throughout the room, and I had my bead and wire kits out too, so people could easily choose a custom piece. I also used ritzpix.com to make a couple of magazine style brochures, which showcased the main collections, like colors, pearls, and pea pods, as well as some pieces that I recently sold but could make more of.

I'll be honest with you: I was a giant ball of nerves the day of the party. Everything went amazingly well, although there are a few things I'll be changing for the next one.

DECEMBER 1, FROM 1-3 is the date and time of the next open house. The event has been posted on both my personal and business Facebook pages. If you'd like more information please email me at boojayknits at gmail dot com. Hope to see you there!

If you are considering having an open house, here are three things I wish I'd done the first time that might help you.

1. Do a dry run of your setup. I had an idea in my head of how I wanted it to look, but I totally winged it. This added so much stress to the day!

2. Consider having a central display. I had several small displays set up throughout the room, and while people seemed to like discovering each section, they also missed some things. Next time I will have one large table with everything on it.

3. Take lots of pictures. I took some pictures of the displays but got distracted and didn't get many pictures of folks interacting with things - trying stuff on, smiling, etc. This might be a good job for a helper to do as well, since you may get sidetracked as I was by comments and questions.

Now here are some pictures that I did take. They're all on the bottom because that's how my phone rolls.
Pea Pod PendantsPersonalization is a huge trend in, well, everything, really! A quick search online or on Etsy will yield personalized bags, pillows, curtains, signs, stationery, and of course, jewelry. Awhile ago I played with the trend a little bit, and made some wire wrapped nests that could be customized with any number and color of bead "eggs". I marketed it as a "Mother's pendant", since many moms, myself included, love things that represent family to us.

But I realized that while the nests were cute, they weren't me. They weren't BooJay Knits style, not to mention that it seemed like everyone was making them.

So the idea of making something with this level of personalization was set aside for awhile, until a friend asked me if I had ever considered making a pea pod necklace. This is the result of that seredipitous idea:

The original Boojay Knits pea pod pendant

It was an instant hit! Everyone loved the idea even more when I found Swarovski glass pearls to represent each birth month, for further customization possibilities. They are so whimsical, with their shimmering "peas" and tiny wire "vine" accents. Each one makes me smile, and I hope it does the same for you!

This summer is flying by! My supremely adorable nephew is here, and me being a knitter and all meant that he needed a blanket. I've known about his impending arrival for some months, but only started his blanket two weeks before his scheduled arrival.

It was certainly a change of pace to work with an actual fiber. I forgot how deliciously soft and squishy yarn can be, and thoroughly enjoyed the marathon knitting.

However, the wee one now has his blanket, so I've dived back into the wire wholeheartedly. First I got out my favorite pearls and combined them with aqua wire and a few darker teal glass beads for a bracelet I call "tranquil seas". Usually my bracelets have an odd number of stitches to make the beads look more random, but this time I used an even number and ran the pearls right up the middle. It worked so well that I'm going to play with the design a bit more, using different materials.

I also had friends and fans help design a deep purple jewel toned beauty. The jewel tones are a great look for fall.

And finally, meet the little sisters of the long spiral earrings I did earlier this year. It started with a fan request for a more petite spiral in blue, but suddenly I had four pairs! The only reason there aren't some in every color of the rainbow is I ran out of ear wires to finish them. They're addictive to knit, fun to wear, and make me smile.
I hope you're having a lively summer! Super hot days mean more inside time for knitting, so I'll be posting more stuff soon. There are some gorgeous gems heading my way as I type, which will end up in bracelets, earrings, and maybe a necklace if I'm feeling up to a challenge.
I've been working on some wonderful custom orders in the interim, and hope to show you some of them soon In the meantime, here is the promised patriotic bling. I'm seriously in love with this clasp. It's whimsical and unique and of course, goes well with the patriotic theme. The classic bracelet has two different colors of blue, deep almost royal, blue, and a light aqua. Iridescent cherry red finishes off the classic color scheme.

Patriotic star bracelet

The coordinating bangle is slim and subtle, and has deep royal blue and cherry red beads in a simple pattern.

What I especially like about these particular bracelets is that they're extremely wearable throughout the year, not just to watch fireworks and parades. But they'll look great for those occasions, too! Both pieces are available in the shop.

So, do you have a favorite "look" between the two? My personal favorite is the classic bracelet, mainly because of, you guessed it, that twinkling star. I wonder what's next for this star accent? Black and gold? A "superstar" themed piece? What do you think?
It seems that I get my best blogging and knitting done at odd hours, like early in the morning or late at night. This is likely because my kids like to have my attention during normal business hours and it's hard to make wire do what I want it to do when I have a 2 year old climbing on me. But despite the clinging, yet ever adorable, kiddos, I have gotten a little actual knitting done, and I have just enough time before they wake up to show you!

Here's the rainbow gold cuff, complete with a star toggle clasp. I love the clasp and want to buy 50 of them and use them in every single piece that I do for the next 6 months. The color mix is my standard rainbow mix, but I added some orange and a little extra blue to it. The effect is really fun, I think.

Rainbow beaded cuff

This is the original silver one, although it doesn't have a star clasp... yet. I'm thinking about switching the regular clasp out for one, though. (Also notice the lack of orange - it adds so much to the new gold cuff, gotta add it to this one as well.)

rainbow silver cuff

And finally... more pink and a bunch of hearts. Clearly, somewhere inside this tomboy was a pretty pretty princess just waiting to get out.

purple heart bracelet

I added some metallic black beads to balance out all of the pink. Speaking of that pink, the color is actually called amethyst and it's considered a purple, but depending on the light the wire looks like a deep fuchsia pink or an intense purple. For that reason it was tricky to photograph, but in the end I feel like I captured the color accurately. Not pictured here is the gorgeous heart shaped toggle clasp that finishes this off. Like I said, super girly!

This week I will be preparing for a 3 day camping trip and amusement park day trip with my husband and the aforementioned toddlers, so there will be no knitting this week! Looks for something patriotic next week, though.Bethanyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16882885376221521388noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7961241105822732742.post-71072271107645900482012-05-10T07:11:00.002-04:002012-05-10T07:11:41.067-04:00bangles, bangles everywhereI can't seem to stop making these bangles! First there were simple beaded ones in saturated colors, like these ones. I've got most of the rainbow here! This rainbow is available individually or as a set of cool blues (the bottom three) or hot tropics (the top three). I've found that they're a lot of fun to stack for more visual impact.

I beaded each one with matching glass seed beads because I can't seem to make "plain" anything.. Next, somebody wanted crystals instead of beads for extra sparkle, so these ones appeared. They're my favorite so far, and I can't wait to do more with these larger crystals.

Finally, someone else thought that a charm bracelet made with this technique would be a great idea, so she picked the charms and I knitted them, along with some Swarovski crystals, to form this set of bangles.

They're pretty easy to make, and definitely fun to wear! I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in a tutorial or pattern to make your own, or perhaps a kit with all of the supplies, as well as directions? Please comment with your thoughts. :)

In the meantime, I'm working on a special project. Every year, one of the churches in my area hosts a Mother's Day Tea, and part of the festivities includes a raffle of a variety of products and services. There has been everything from a movie night basket, to Avon products, and even a full photography shoot donated by a local photographer. I'm making this set of bangles for the event:

Time to chug some coffee and get knitting.
Short of keeping sheep in your backyard and using the fleece for yarn, something my town would frown on, there are a few things that you can do. I've blogged about these things over at the Fiber Arts Guild.

Have you ever wanted to try making or using tshirt yarn? what about upcycling old sweaters, or using yarns made of recycled material? Then check out "Earth Day for Fiber Artists" for some resources and fun suggestions.
Between custom orders and sickness (the flue bug that just won't quit) I haven't had a chance to catch up here. Recently I've had the opportunity to create some pretty in pink custom orders. First there was the silver and pink crystal bangle, which turned out so well I listed one. (That happens a lot, my customers are smart and have lovely ideas.)

Then there was the matching pink knot necklace. The tricky part with this one was making the wire wrapped clasp. I used heavier gauge stainless steel wire. Ouch! My hands were killing me in the end, but the results were pretty, so I'm sure I'll be doing it again. If you decide to try it, take your time and take plenty of breaks. I found this tutorial from Trina Ann to be very helpful. Since I don't have bail making pliers I used a knitting needle, size 7, to wrap the wire around for the coil.. I worked the loop using a wire jig, and my kids were fascinated, watching as I snaked the wire around the pegs and created the shape.

The final piece is actually a fun set of bangles in black, silver, and hot pink. Yes, we're back to bangles. They're multiplying like rabbits around here. It started with just two, but now there's a whole collection in a rainbow of shades, with more coming as colors are suggested to me or as I see pretty wire. There's a very citrus-ey bunch hanging out in the bracelet box now, but they'd clash with the rest of the pink in this post. Maybe next time.
Peacock Pearl NecklaceHere is the story behind a very special piece - the Peacock Pearl Necklace.

Last week we had a mini summer - temperatures nearing 80, no
humidity, brilliant sunshine - perfect weather for being OUT. So the
kids and I went to the zoo, the park, and played outside as much as we
could. On one of our zoo expeditions, my littlest became fascinated with the peacocks. They are allowed to roam freely at our zoo, and frequently hang out around the pavilion area looking for crumbs, standing around, and being gorgeous. Sometimes a male will make his tail stand up, but that doesn't happen too often.

During our lunchtime she kept running off to where several peahens were pecking and wandering around. She was almost dancing when the male of the group showed up. (gander? gathering? flock? What are a group of peacocks called, anyway?) Even with his tail down, he was still shimmering with all kids of color, making the poor peahens seem positively drab by comparison.

Cameras started going off and a crowd gathered when the male made his tail feathers fan out. He stayed that way for several minutes, probably agitated by the crowd, the cameras, and the babies who reached out and touched one of his feathers. (My daughter was guilty of that one) Check him out protecting his group! (Herd?)
Look at those colors! I'm in love with jewel tones, particularly the rich teal color of Mr. Peacock's neck. Then there is emerald green, more blue, even hints of purple and gold in the feathers. I went home that day and couldn't get this guy out of my head, and then I remembered my small collection of peacock
pearls. (deep teal dyed pearls, with hints of purple and green) I didn't
have very many, and I loved them, so I knew that whatever I did with
them needed to be extra special.

Peacock inspiration and peacock pearls. What a perfect match! I decided to make a short necklace, just over 20" long, with a look influenced by the short pearl strands seen on Mad Men. Mad Men is
a TV show about an ad agency and set in the 60's. This is one of my favorite shows and I'm very grateful to NetFlix for suggesting it. Seeing Betty look elegant and put together with her impeccably tailored clothes and pearls, even while relaxing at home, has spurred me to put more effort into my appearance and ditch the sweats a little more often. (I'm a SAHM with two toddlers. It gets messy around here!)

One of my friends has called this piece "The Floating Necklace" since it rests so delicately around my neck, and it truly feels like it's floating. In fact, it's so light that you can barely feel it at all.

Well, there you have it: The story behind The Peacock Pearl Mad Men Floating Necklace. Now that's a mouthful!
Bethanyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16882885376221521388noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7961241105822732742.post-19341585372395731792012-03-19T15:14:00.000-04:002012-03-19T15:14:17.941-04:00Guest post... sort of.I've mentioned the ever-so-awesome Fiber Arts Guild before, and today's post is over there. I'm the rotating blog editor for this week -eeeks!- and spent all of my blogging time over there, getting everything ready. This kickoff post is all about my favorite layers for spring, and will hopefully give you an idea or two for adding to your own spring sweater wardrobe. :)
Would a show n' tell make up for my lack of attention? Because I have been busy crafting the beginning of spring 2012 designs, and some of them are ready for you to see. :D

First, these lovely silver bangles, featuring real turquoise and amethyst gems and Sterling silver. Spring is almost here, and the bright blue and purple reminds me of
crocuses and blue skies. They look great alone or layered, and you can

For these bracelets I wanted to experiment with a clasp-free design that would just slip over the hand. It took a few tries to get a design that was slender and compact, yet strong and dense enough to hold its shape through many wearings. And of course, gems had to be involved! As mentioned, turquoise and amethyst bangles are currently in the shop, and I'll be experimenting with more gems soon, most probably pearls, since nothing beats their creamy luster.

A copper bangle is also up for grabs, although it has a warmer look reminiscent of suntans and fires on the beach. Doesn't that sound like an amazing vacation? Well until the bugs start biting and the tide rolls in, anyway.
The final piece of this little show n' tell is a pair of copper earrings in a brand new shape. It's hip to be square! These lovelies also feature genuine amethyst centered in the rectangular dangles.
I have been dying to show these to you, but I had to wait until I heard back from my testers. Since these are for little ones - the ones shown here are for age 1-2 years old - I had to KNOW that they were safe as well as pretty. The testing is finally done - many thanks to my lovely friends who tested Baby Bling on their daughters. The bracelets have been tugged, pulled on and off of tiny wrists dozens of times a day, and even chewed on, and they have withstood the punishment with crystals and wire intact.

Here is what my testers had to say:

From Lori:
I am loving this bracelet. I
put it on Emma when she got up this morning, and although she pulled at
it a little, it held up perfectly. Things I LOVE about the bracelet:
no clasp to brake or snag on anything; it's snug enough not to catch on
anything but it still moves a little (although I know that you said that
given the nature of the wire, I could work it to make it bigger if
needed); and the beads are knitted in the bracelet (I know, a given
considering it's knitted jewelry : ) ), so there's next to no concern
about swallowing, but the beads are small enough that there really isn't
a concern about choking. This is definitely a hit for us. Now I have
to think about other colors to get this in : D

From Jessie:<span class="messageBody" data-ft="{"type":3}">
<span class="messageBody" data-ft="{"type":3}">I
didn't take any pix yet but I had Dallas wearing her bracelet and O MY
GOSH I loooove it!! I'm all about coordinating with my girlies so I love
that my bracelet and earrings match Dallas's! You should start a Mommy
and Me line!! It's very popular right now and ADORABLE =) Thanks so much
for making us our beautiful bling!

My daughter also tested a bracelet - she's the one who bit hers. :0 She loves all things sparkly, and in fact this line was inspired by my tiny drama queen. Her favorite thing seems to be twisting her wrist around to see the crystals sparkle, and she also loves that she can take it on and off all by herself.

As Lori mentioned, the bracelet is a one piece bangle that is slightly springy and flexible, both for your little one's comfort and so the sizing can be adjusted a bit by gently tugging to make it larger or squishing to make it smaller. The beads are very firmly embedded in the wire, and in fact my daughter tried to pry one out without success. I can't even pull one out of its wire nest.

Jessie mentioned making "Mommy & Me" sets, and that is definitely an option. In act, here is a Baby Bling bracelet specifically made to match an adult bracelet.

(Unless someone has skills they're not revealing...) That's where the internet comes in handy. Thanks to various forums and groups, I've gotten to know some amazingly talented artists, many of whom were kind enough to pass some of their knowledge on to me. But it's easy to get lost in a forum - for me, anyway, who has been known to get lost in my local mall. Sad but true, my husband says I need "indoor GPS".

Enter teams and guilds. Awhile ago I joined the Fiber Arts Guild, and recently things there have really picked up, thanks to our new captain, PiratePixieCrew. We've got a facebook page, a blog, we tweet, we pinterest.... about the only thing we don't do is YouTube. Yet. There is so much good stuff in our guild! I encourage you to check it out - there's hats, scarves, handwarmers, jewelry, patterns, and adorable whimsies like this felted top hat:
I love the sense of community, of togetherness, that we have. Everyone loves fiber, and even though my "fiber" is unconventional, they have all welcomed me with open arms. It's also a great place to discuss knitting and know that I'm not driving everyone nuts. ;-) Not that I'm obsessed or anything...

And, because if one is good, two are great, I also joined a the creative "Wired" team. Here's one of my favorite pieces from a fellow artist and team member, sarahndippity.

This makes me want to learn how to wire weave and wire wrap. Total gorgeousness, and it's now on my wish list, just in case the hubby is reading this. ;) The Wired team is busy as well, and very friendly. Seeing so much finely crafted work inspires me to hone my skills, pay more attention to detail, and take chances. As a result of getting involved in these vibrant groups of artists, I've been emboldened to try some new things that you're really going to like.

If you are an artist and you're feeling lonely or like you've lost your creative edge, I strongly encourage you to join a like minded group, guild, or team of fellow artisans. You can find groups according to geography, craft, or other common interests like sports. Getting involved like this has been a shot in the arm for me.

Tangerine Tango is the color of the year for 2012, according to Pantone. I'm already seeing the color in stores as the spring collections are being introduced. So far I've seen it combined with camel, blue, and black. While the pop of juicy, vibrant orange makes the neutrals really pop and it looks especially lovely on tanned, olive, or chocolatey skin, I'm super pale. Ghostly, even. (I prefer "creamy" though, sounds less scary, hehe.)

So what's a style conscious girl to do?

Make something, of course! This is my take on tangerine. It's a cream and tangerine striped knitted bracelet. The cream accents and overall laciness of the design softens the impact of the bright orange and makes it more wearable, for those who want just a taste of the orange.

This is a lightbox. Basically it's a 2 foot square box with three translucent sides and a neutral colored backdrop inside. Two bright lights on tripods were included with mine, as well as a small camera tripod and a carrying case. If you sell online, you need to get one of these! I'll show you why.

The first picture was taken using my camera's pop up flash, the second was taken using the lightbox and one of the included lights for side lighting. The second photo is evenly lit, the first one is not. As a shopper I would be more attracted to the second photo. Not convinced?

Here's another example. Again, the first photo was taken using the popup flash and the second was taken using the lightbox and one side light.

Using a lightbox will give your product photographs consistency. I received mine for Christmas, and before I got it I took pictures on sunny days by a large window. It was awkward and the lighting wasn't consistent. Sometimes I had to use incandescent (traditional inside lighting) lighting because the outside light wasn't suitable.Sometimes I ended up with color casts because of the light - things would look too blue or yellow, for example.

Here's a link for an inexpensive lightbox on Amazon that will provide everything you need to get started. It's only $31!

Once you have your lightbox, follow the instructions to set it up. Mine was super easy - I pulled the sides up and out and velcroed the back and one of the sides together. Mine came with a double sided background, and for my shots I used the gray side. (The other side of mine is bright blue.) Then place your item inside the tent and set up the lights.

I recommend setting your product up before the lights, so you can easily position the lights to be most flattering on your product. As I mentioned, I used just one light for the "after" shots above, positioned on the outside of the tent, slightly behind the bracelet. Sometimes I use both lights, one on the left and behind, the other on the right and either beside the item or slightly in front of it. I've also used one on on the side and one on top, as shown in the top photo at the beginning of this post. The top of my light box is translucent, so I just placed one light on top and aimed it down towards my bracelet.

This is one of the easiest ways to give your product consistent, professional, look and feel.

What about you? Have you tried a lightbox? What were your results?

You give great input about new concepts and jewelry pieces, you bring a smile to my face by "liking" everything, and you're really, really funny! So how to reward that awesomeness?

With a fan of the month program, of course! Effective immediately, you can check how you rank HERE. Each time you interact with us on Facebook by "liking" a post, commenting on a post, or posting something new - customer pictures are always welcome! - you'll get points. The more you interact, the more points you earn. At the end of each month the person with the most points is crowned "Fan of the Month".

Why should you participate? Because the fan of the month gets a special coupon just for them for use in the shop. It will be different each month, but always something special that you're sure to enjoy. One month's winner may receive a coupon for 20% off their purchase, while another winner may get one item for 50% off or a gift certificate for $10. How fun is that?

January's winner will be announced February 1st, so it's time to get clicking!

Have fun, and thanks for being awesome. <3Bethanyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16882885376221521388noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7961241105822732742.post-91744604763181031092012-01-04T10:31:00.003-05:002012-01-04T10:31:54.843-05:00one whole year!Wow, 2011 was quite a ride, and 2012 is going to be even better. It's so hard to believe that last year I was making knitted flower clips, which looked more like fiber-y cinnamon buns, and now I get to work with shiny metal and sparkling beads. Oh, and let's not forget STERLING!! hehe Can't wait to see what this year brings. But first, some heartfelt thanks are in order to some wonderful groups of people who have helped me so much.

Thank you

1. First and foremost, my fans and clients. I love talking to you all! Each "like" on facebook, every comment and suggestion, has been taken into account when designing new pieces. Some of my best work was suggested by you, like this collection of jewel toned copper bracelets. Genius! It has been a pleasure getting to know each one of you this year. You're a sweet, funny bunch. <3

2. Color Combo Challenge (CCC) group on Facebook It was a very good day when I stumbled into this group of wonderful artists. Many of the artists who participate in the color challenges are masters of their craft with many years of experience, which they freely shared to newbies like me. Thank you, each one of you, who offered input on my ideas and projects, recommendations for higher grade materials, and encouraged me when I didn't think I was "good enough". One of your number even sent me a package of wonderful beads to jumpstart my collection!

My skills were improved as I tried new things for the challenges, and braved color combinations I wouldn't have tried otherwise. I am a much better artist than I was a year ago, and it's because of the creative pushing of this lovely group.

3. The Artifre community. Artfire.com is where my shop is hosted. Have you heard of Etsy? Artfire is an up-and-coming handmade marketplace similar to the Big E. When I started there I had No idea what I was doing, but by spending time in the forums, asking questions, and reading the helpful start guides I figured it out. I've learned about SEO, keywords, how to take better product pictures, and the art of writing great descriptions from the people and articles in the forum.

Earthegy was an artist who was especially helpful to me, and one day I hope to have her level of success. Her story is amazing!

What's next?

I have a lot of plans for this year. Last year's plan was to blog, sell online, and run a Facebook page for an entire year. Mission accomplished! This year is going to be even better.

1. Fan appreciation program - I'm in the process of setting up a rewards program on my Facebook page to reward the fans who interact there with special discounts.

2. Patterns and knits of BooJay jewelry will be available sometime this spring. The patterns are in the process of being written up, and once finished can be purchased alone or with a kit of beads, wire, and clasps.

3. Increase my offerings of Sterling silver, and add a special selection of gold filled pieces. I'm also transitioning to using gems and Swarovski crystals exclusively instead of the glass beads I started with.

3. Site redesign - Give the old blog and shops (I have one on Artfire and one on Etsy) a facelift, so everything works together and has a unified, more professional, look.

4. Faster shipping. My goal is to ship within 24 hours, unless the piece is custom made. Custom pieces will be shipped within 24 hours of completion. Last year orders are shipped within 3 days of ordering.

Here's to 2012!Bethanyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16882885376221521388noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7961241105822732742.post-47770212169091242302011-12-22T17:27:00.001-05:002011-12-22T17:27:16.484-05:00golden ChristmasTrue confession: I'm not a huge fan of gold jewelry. This is why, up until recently, BooJay did not offer any.

So far the collection has lots of blue and green, and the bracelet has accents of black. This particular bracelet and the coordinating aqua (technically Blue Zircon) crystal ball earrings are a custom order, but I still have more of this particular bead mix, so another one is available.

It may not be the traditional red and green colors of the season, but I think it's festive nonetheless. When I think of Christmas, I think of rich golden memories - family togetherness, sparkling wrapping paper all over the place, laughter, love, and a crackling fire. Do your memories have colors? What colors speak to you?

Wishing you and yours a very merry Christmas, and a happy holiday, whatever you may celebrate. See you next year!
Depending on the size, one of these pretty winter accessories can be worn as a hat, a scarf, a thick collar, or a chunky necklace, if one is particularly thin.

I splurged on a luxurious cashmere blend yarn awhile ago to make one of these cowls, and had a lot of fun coming up with different ways to wear it. My favorite look was created by twisting the cowl one and a half twists and then buttoning it and wearing it with the buttons in the back and the twist in the front, like so:

For me, the most practical way of wearing this is with the buttoned end diagonally under the opposite end, and buttoned so it stays put. Then it covers the awkward bit that's not covered by my coat.

Since there's a subtle eyelet lace pattern throughout the cowl, it can be buttoned any number of ways. Also, the buttons are darling little round antique silver balls with some interesting texture.
This cowl was made with a cashmere/merino/nylon blend yarn that's buttery soft. Not itch in sight! Thin deep pink and charcoal stripes are balanced by swaths of cream, and it's pretty wide - 10" wide when relaxed and 24" long. The cozy cashmere buttoned up cowl is listed in the shop and can be yours!Bethanyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16882885376221521388noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7961241105822732742.post-76661896080066217902011-12-06T22:04:00.000-05:002011-12-06T22:17:36.485-05:00waiting for the snow

It's December 6th now, time for a nice white snowfall in my book!
The first snow arrived here in Pennsylvania on Halloween, but we haven't seen any of the white stuff since. :( So, while we're waiting, here's a snowy collection of artisan goodies for you to enjoy.
